The Cellar

The Cellar is located off the Square in downtown Newnan at 20 Jefferson St. When you walk in, you will think you have arrived at Steakhouse in downtown Atlanta. Music is playing in the background that will you take you back to a dinner scene from a Frank Sinatra movie. The atmosphere is exactly what you would want for a date night. The menu has a wide variety of options, and though there is no “gluten-free” menu there are several gluten free options. The bar has a wide variety of craft brews, wine, and bourbon to go along with the steak house feel of the restaurant. The wait staff is very friendly and will help with the recommendations. We started off with two appetizers, both recommendations from the waiter, the fried mozzarella and the conch fritters. The fried mozzarella was good, but the conch fritters were excellent. The conch fritters came with mustard and remoulade dipping sauces (remoulade was the best).

Salads were good and what you would expect from a steakhouse, good wedge salad and good caprese tower. As for dinner, the waiter kept pushing the seafood options and burger options, and I now know why. The steak was burnt, dry, and did not have much flavor. The opposite was the case for the grilled cobia, which was grilled to perfection and had a great roasted red-pepper sauce. The blue cheese polenta did not have a good flavor, but you can substitute for other options. If I wanted a steak I would not go back for the steak; however, if I wanted a good date night and was in the mood for seafood, I would go back. Overall: 2.9 out of 5 and $$$$
